All expectations shattered in Q2 as Latin America surpasses 10% EV market share
Electric vehicle sales (including battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids) accelerated considerably in the second quarter of 2026. After reaching a record 110,000 units in Q1, Q2 delivered a substantially higher record, with sales nearly reaching 190,000 units.
This growth represents a 58% increase compared with the first quarter and an impressive 137% increase compared with the second quarter of last year. As a result, for the first time, the region’s EV market share has surpassed the 10% threshold.

The growth of electric vehicles has been fast enough to cause a decline in sales of combustion-powered vehicles (including non-plug-in hybrids), despite growth in the overall vehicle market. Specifically, total vehicle sales increased by approximately 50,000 units, whereas sales of combustion-powered vehicles fell by 60,000 units, driven by an increase of 110,000 units in electric vehicle sales.
